GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE
The structure emphasises the Tamariki being supported by the Whanau, Hapu and Iwi. The diagram defines those responsible for Governance and Management and the community to whom all are accountable. The building blocks of this structure all interrelate to support the Kaupapa and achieve the goals of the Kura; the unifying of the divided, majestic Totara.
WHANAU ROLE
The Whanau represents the governing authority of the Kura and in accordance with Te Aho Matua the Kura is managed by the whole Whanau.
The Whanau is defined as anyone with a vested interest in helping the Kura fulfil its mission statement. They provide collaborative support for the management, administration and operations of the Kura on a daily basis, and they actively participate in the activities of the Kura in a manner that provides support for the teaching and learning programmes.
In accordance with legislation the Whanau elects members (5 at present) that satisfy Ministry of Education requirements for a legally constituted Board of Trustees. In practise every member of the Whanau has equal rights and responsibilities in the governance and management of the Kura.
