SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS
Of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Piripono
· Situated on Kokiri Te Rahuitanga complex of which the Kura makes up one of the whanau clusters, e.g. Kohanga reo, Te
Rangatiratanga Programme and Small Business Enterprises.
· Is based on the ethics, protocols and management of a Marae.
· Whanau managed and directed with the whanau playing a major role in both Governance and Management.
· Te reo Maori is the principle language of instruction; and the means of general communication.
· Validates Maori knowledge.
· The Kura operates in accordance with Te Aho Matua.
· Currently catering for student from year 1 to 10 (Form 3-4) through a satellite arrangement with Te WhareKura O Te Koutu
with a view to attaining composite status (WhareKura) by the end of 2003.
· Adaptability consideration given to encompass learning from other ethnic peoples.
· Provides quality educational programmes for their tamariki.
· Provides English Literacy as an option for Year 7 & 8 Tamariki
· All education programmes incorporate individual learning styles.
· Involvement with Community is encouraged and promoted.
· Outside agencies are encouraged where the need arises.
